Suspect from 2015 Rape Case Captured

The Baltimore County Police Department say they have captured the suspect in a 2015 rape case thanks to his DNA. They released this statement.

"DNA technology has helped police identify the suspect responsible for a home invasion and rape in March 2015.

Just before 3 a.m. on March 26, 2015, police responded to an apartment in the 4000 block of Colchester Road 21229 for a rape that had just occurred.

The investigation has indicated that around 2 a.m. that day, a 26-year-old woman opened the front door of her apartment as she was leaving for work. As she opened the door, she saw the suspect standing in front of it. She immediately screamed, shut the door, and secured it with the dead bolt. The suspect began to strike the door, forced it open, and entered the apartment. He led the victim to her bedroom where he raped her.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. DNA was collected from the victim during the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination. When the DNA was entered into CODIS, it revealed a match with 36-year-old Alphonso Dewayne Owens of the 3400 block of SW Caton Avenue 21229.

Owens has been charged with first-degree rape, home invasion, and related charges. He is being held without bail.

This incident remains under investigation by the Baltimore County Police Special Victims Unit. Detectives are working to determine if Owens is responsible for any other similar incidents."
