Road Closures & Detours for 24th Annual Komen Race for the Cure MD.

Baltimore County is host to the 24th Annual Susan G. Komen Maryland Race for the Cure. On Sunday, October 23 runners from around the state will meet at the “Race Village” located on the parking lots of the Executive Plaza in Hunt Valley.

Participants and others will begin arriving at 6 a.m. The race will start at 8 a.m.

To help the event run smoothly, officers from the Baltimore County Police Department will be on hand to keep runners, volunteers, onlookers, and others safe. They are aware of the problems that motorists may face during the race and will direct traffic to keep it moving as efficiently as possible.

Police strongly suggest drivers avoid the area between 6 and 11:30 a.m. because of heavy traffic and road closures.

Road closures are as follows:

  • Shawan Road at York Road: No westbound traffic will be allowed to travel on Shawan Road after 5:45 a.m. At 7:30 a.m. all southbound traffic on York Road will be allowed as far as the Giant parking lot.

  • Shawan Road at the entrance to the Hunt Valley Towne Centre (east entrance, across from Verizon): No traffic will be allowed to exit the Towne Centre parking lot after 6 a.m.

  • Shawan Road at main entrance to Hunt Valley Towne Centre (near Light Rail): No traffic will be allowed to exit the Towne Centre parking lot after 6 a.m. (Once the race ends on Shilling Road, eastbound Shawan Road will be opened).
